Service Committees:
The Service Committees are divided into five general program/project areas: ( 1)Sponsored Leadership Programs (SLPs), ( 2) Community Support, ( 3) Fund RaisingPrograms, (4) Social/Membership Outreach, (5) Weekly Meeting SupportListed below are particular service committees and the Kiwanians that have agreed tochair these committees this year. 
(1). Sponsored Leadership Programs (SLP): A focused effort of our club is on building, training, and supporting Kiwanis leadership efforts inserviceopportunities among youth and developmentally challenged  adults Aktion Club Co-Chair:MikeBeck

(2). Community Support: We provide programs and projects that directly
involve our Kiwanians in service to our community
Community Partners Chair: Pat Pate
This committee studies grant requests and recommends disbursements of funds from the Kiwanis Boys
and Girls account. They also work with the non-profit agencies that have been selected to be our
partners in support of the primary aims of our club.
Adopt-A-Highway Chair: David Thompson
This project cleans up the assigned area along Westchester Ave. on a quarterly basis to the area
assigned to the Kiwanis Club of High Point.
Christmas Cheer Chairmen: Wiley Stockton, Ed Thomas, Jim Horney, Jack
Clemens
This program manages the Christmas Cheer Campaign which raises funds to buy toys to distribute to
children identified as needing support by Guilford County Social Services.
Community Projects Chair: Varies for Each Project
This group would seek hands-on projects for the club to participate in during the year which could be a
signature major emphasis project or could be a variety of smaller projects.
Dictionary Project Chair: David Jones
This project involves distributing dictionaries to third graders at several elementary schools in the High
Point area.
Enduring Gratitude Chairmen: Doug Harrison, David Miller, Bill Anderson
This committee plans and executes several events during the year that will provide fun and engaging
activities for our veterans as a show of support and appreciation.
Garden Co-Chairs: Eric Olmedo, Bob Martin
This project produces fresh vegetables which provide support for families associated with our partner
agencies by maintaining a garden during the summer.
Kids Voting Co-Chair: Tom Spencer,
This project provides volunteers for Kids Voting at the Emerywood Baptist Church polling site on election
days.
North Carolina Marathon Co-Chair: Jeff Oves, Harvey Lowd
Kiwanians provide a “Water Station” while our SLPs provide a robust “Cheer Zone”.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing Chair: Bud McInnis, Daisy Ruggiero
This project provides volunteers to serve as bell ringers on a Saturday before Christmas, usually at the
mall.
Wyndham Championship Co-Chairs: Steve LaFrance, ( )
This project provides volunteers to work two different golf holes during the tournament for the PGA Shot
Links procedures.
(3). Fund Raising Programs: Our “Pancake Day” raises money for the
Kiwanis Boys and Girls account so we can provide funds to support our partner
agencies and other major programs that we may sponsor. The “Worldwide
Service Project” is our global emphasis to support a Kiwanis and UNICEF
International Project.
“PANCAKE DAY”
Fund Raising (Pancake Day) Co-Chair: Bo Davis, Dave Nicoletta, Karol Murks
This group works to raise funds to support the aims of the Kiwanis Club including support of our twelve
partner non-profit agencies.
Pancake Day Operations & Procurement
Chair: Dave Nicoletta
This group organizes the production of Pancake Day, and procures supplies for the event
Volunteer Director Chair: Karol Murks
This committee organizes, places, and supervises volunteers in job positions for Pancake Day
Book Sale Chair: Mike Beck
This project collects books and organizes the sale of the books during Pancake Day to raise additional
funds.
Advertising Chair: Joan Campbell
This group sells ad spots on our Pancake Day placemats as well as other innovative ad possibilities.
Silent Auction Chair: Bob Martin
This group solicits items from local businesses and groups for the silent auction.
Ticket Sales Chair: Jeff Oves
This group organizes the sale of tickets for Pancake Day and creates a little fun at our meetings.
Entertainment Chair: Debbie Lumpkins
This committee organizes entertainment for Pancake Day
“WORLDWIDE SERVICE PROJECT 2011-2015”
Maternal Neo-Natal Tetanus Elimination Project
Chair: David Miller, Skip Queen
Kiwanis International asked UNICEF to identify a global need that could be addressed by Kiwanis
worldwide. The project selected was to raise $110 million dollars to provide protective tetanus
vaccinations to woman of child-bearing age who are exposed to tetanus spores during pregnancy and
delivery. The goal is to reach the $110 million dollars by 2015 in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary
of Kiwanis International.
(4). Social/Membership Outreach: The Social/Membership Committees
and Projects serve to enhance our relationships within the Club, our relationships
with other Kiwanis clubs, and to recruit new members that are dedicated to the
ideals of Kiwanis and in particular the Kiwanis Club of High Point.
Membership Chair: Dell McCormick
This committee is responsible for developing plans to maintain an appropriate membership and to assist
in identifying and recruiting new members to our club.
Education/New Member Orientation Chair: Mike Beck
This committee is responsible for educating members as to their opportunities and responsibilities in
Kiwanis. This includes providing periodic new member orientations to let new members know about club
activities.
Social Committee Chair: Bob Martin
This committee plans various social events during the year including the annual party and encourages
attendance at all club meetings and activities.
Golf Tournament Chair: Todd Messner
This project provides a social opportunity for members and potential members to interact in an informal
setting .
Football Pool Chair: Judy Mendenhall
This project encourages attendance at meetings by providing an opportunity for interaction among
members in a friendly competition of predicting college and area high school football contests.
Interclub Chair: Bill Buckingham
This group looks for ways to increase the spirit of fellowship between the members of our club and other
Kiwanis clubs primarily through interclub visits to exchange club ideas and create better intercommunity
relations.
Nominating Chair: Mike Beck
This committee seeks club members to serve on the Board and in leadership positions for the Club. It
consists of the five most recent past presidents of our club and is chaired by the most recent pastpresident.
(5). Support (Weekly Meetings): The Support Committees and Groups
work primarily to support the weekly meetings of the Club and the general
administration of Club activities.
Programs Chair: Skip Queen
This committee secures speakers for the weekly programs at club meetings by looking for interesting and
informative speakers to address issues or topics of interest and importance to the club and the
community.
House Committee Chair: Joan Campbell
This group provides arrangements for our weekly club meetings including the location and food for the
meeting.
Reception Chair: Mark Thacker
This committee arranges for club members to greet members and guests as they arrive for club meetings.
Receptionists also provide tickets for split-the-pot and call on club members to introduce guests at the
meetings.
Spiritual Aims Chair: Chuck Hicks
This committee enlists club members to offer the prayer before the start of each meeting or social event.
Achievement Chair: Sharon Drescher
This group monitors club achievements during the year and completes International Kiwanis forms for
awards for the Club and for individual members in the club.
Music Chair: Virg Bynum
This group provides for special music at club meetings and leads songs and the pledge of allegiance at
the start of Club meetings.
Public Relations Co-Chairs: Eric Olmedo
This group promotes the activities and aims of the Club through the provision of public information on the
activities of the Club.
Newsletter Chair: Eric Olmedo
This area provides for a weekly newsletter sent to all Club members to keep them informed about
upcoming events and other general information relevant to the Club and the Club members.
Internet Chair: Bud McInnis
This group maintains the Club website and keeps the information on the site fresh and up-to-date
